Everything except the sour cream is made from scratch....
And even the sour cream gets a twist.... a twist of lime that is. He calls it La crème and I don't know what that means except that it's tasty. I'm posting the picture today and will add the recipe later because I don't know which recipe I'm going to post yet. Should it be the homemade salsa, the tortillas, or the plantains. One thing to note, it always tastes good, regardless of what meat we choose or how many homemade sides come along for the ride.
Since the tortilla recipe is on the side of the masa bag and the plantains are really just slice smush a bit with side of knife and fry in oil, I decided to share the salsa recipe. I'm pretty sure I posted the sauce used for the meat in the deconstructed chili. Its pretty similar to what he does for tacos.
Homemade salsa
6 Roma tomato
1 Onion
5 cloves Garlic
1 Jalapeños
1/4 cup Cilantro
1/2 tsp Cumin
juice of 1 Lime
Salt to taste
Directions (30 minutes to prep)
1) Dice tomatoes small and onion too. Place in a bowl.
2) Use a garlic press or dice cloves very small.
3) Chop the jalapeños and remove the seeds. We remove them from the jalapeños because there are too many taste buds in our family, meaning we can add hot afterwards if we need to but we can't take it away. Add to the mix
4) Chop & add cilantro. Mix, then add spices and lime juice and mix again. Let it sit for at least an hour
The fresh taste of home made salsa really adds to any taco night.
